TikTok creator pay vs the CPM framing

By Oliver Wakefield-Smith · updated July 2026

The short answer

TikTok does not pay a CPM, and forcing its numbers into one produces fiction. The documented structure: Creator Rewards pays from a view-pool at rates shown only in the creator dashboard, and TikTok Pulse shares 50% of ad revenue with qualifying creators whose videos run adjacent to Pulse placements. Everything per-1,000 you see quoted publicly is reverse- engineered anecdote.

Pool economics vs revshare, in one paragraph

YouTube's watch-page model ties your pay to the ads on YOUR videos: 55% of that revenue is yours, so advertiser demand for your audience flows to you. A view-pool model severs that link: a pot is divided across qualifying views platform-wide, so your per-view rate depends on the pot's size and everyone else's view counts, neither of which you can see or influence. That is why creator-fund payouts famously drift without any change in your content, and why no honest CPM can be quoted for them.

Pulse: the exception that proves it

Pulse is TikTok's move toward the YouTube shape: premium advertisers buy adjacency to top content, and TikTok's published announcement commits 50% of that revenue to the creator whose video carried the placement. Qualification is selective (follower and content thresholds apply), so for most accounts Pulse is aspiration rather than income. But it is the one TikTok creator number with a source you can link, so it anchors this page.

What to do with anecdote rates

Creator-reported per-1,000-view figures for the funds vary by an order of magnitude across geography and month. Use your own dashboard: total payout divided by qualifying views, times 1,000, in the calculator, and track it monthly.
